Visitors from Transmission Gully

Rob and Lauren from Transmission Gully came to talk to Team Optimist about how and why they are building a new road through Pauatahanui.

We learned that they had to move all the fish and lizards that they could from the rivers to keep them safe.

They also read us Roadwork by Sally Sutton. This explained lots about what they're doing.

Rural Trading Post

We visited the rural trading post in Pauatahanui village.

It was really interesting to learn about what they do there, why they do it and we compared it to living in the middle of Wellington City.

Anika and Dani knew ALLLLL about the fancy chicken devices!

There were EVEN DINO BONES!

How exciting!

The rural Trading Post is a very important part of our community.

The Garage and Cinema

We went into the Pauatahanui Lighthouse Cinema.  They told us all about what they do there.  We got to go into the projector rooma and they showed us how films used to be on a reel and now it's all digital.

Riley L decided that he'd like to own a cinema when he's older so he can watch ALLLLL the movies and choose which ones to show. Also he decided he'd make LOTS of money doing that.

We learned that the cinema used to be the school hall.

We all thought its was very funny that they regularly get sheep, ducks and other animals coming into the cinema!

Hans at the garage showed us how they get underneath the cars to fix them at the garage.
